The Kentucky Headhunters

The Kentucky Headhunters have spent decades making their mark with a unique blend of Southern rock, country, blues, and rock ’n’ roll. Long before they became one of country music’s most distinctive bands, brothers Richard and Fred Young, along with cousins Greg Martin and Anthony Kenney, began performing together in 1968 as the Southern blues-rock group Itchy Brother. In 1986, the group evolved into the band that would become The Kentucky Headhunters.

Their breakthrough came in 1989 with the release of Pickin’ on Nashville on Mercury Records. What followed was an unexpected national sensation, with the album selling more than two million copies and earning a Grammy Award along with three Country Music Awards, an American Music Award, and an Academy of Country Music Award. The album also produced four consecutive Top 40 country hits and firmly established the group as a force unlike anything else in country music.
